regarding A Cyborg Manifesto

With just one close reading under my belt, I’m counting myself a Haraway convert. Utterly charmed – by her assertion that the feminism of now must reject the discourse of dialectics (that polluted relic) in its quest for new relevance – and by her refusal to abide genre conventions (feeble contraint – a.k.a. the ethic of divide and conquer). Her language is poetry – she has banished impotent academicspeak – yes conceptual complexity is reified, not stifled. I have been preoccupied for long enough with the ways and means of style and clarity in scholarly writing – and this text is a revelation. Rereads are in order…

  1. First, let me compliment you on the design of your blog — you’ve done a really beautiful job of making this virtual space your own. I love the sidebar widgets you’ve added, and I look forward to seeing your continued experimentation here.

It’s also great to see how deeply Haraway’s work has affected and inspired you. It seems to me that part of the power of her “Cyborg Manifesto” comes at least in part from the generic form — the manifesto — that she used for it. If that form appeals to you, you might think about writing a manifesto of your own as one of your papers for this course.

Thanks very much for pulling together all of those Haraway-related links.
